How do I choose a diamond disc?

Diamond discs are well-known diamond tools used by every construction company. we can divide diamond discs by:

  • applications (type of material to be cut)
  • diameters used
  • the type of machine used for cutting
  • method of cutting (dry or wet)
  • cutting speeds
  • quality of cut

Following this division diamond discs are divided into concrete cutting discsreinforced concrete, asphalt, refractory materials, granite, marble, stoneware tiles ...etc. Each of these materials has its own physical characteristics and this requires the appropriate diamond segments.

Therefore diamond cutting discs reinforced concrete will be radically different from diametric discs, for example: for asphalt. It is the individual properties of each material such as hardness, abrasiveness, abrasion, porosity, density, manufacturing method, etc. that have the main influence on the appropriate segment selection.

Of course, when selecting diamond discs We must not only be guided by the material to be cut. The working environment, wet or dry working, the type of machine and its power are very important. Diamond dry cutting discs differ from diamond blades for wet cutting primarily the type of bonding between the diamond segment and the steel disc. Wet diamond discs are 80 % brazed, whereas dry diamond discs are laser-welded. This means that wet diamond discs must not be used for dry cutting due to the possibility of overheating the joint between the segment and the steel disc.

This does not mean, however, that dry cutting with a dry cutting disc can be carried out without any consequences. It is practicable and advisable to dry cut for no longer than 1.5 minutes and then let the disc cool down at low speed (idling) for about 30 seconds while the diamond disc spins freely. Of course, wet cutting is always advisable to increase the service life and to reduce dust.

Diamond disc diameters

Diamond discs come in sizes from 115mm to 3500mm. however, the most popular diameters are 125mm, 230mm, 350mm, 400mm, 500mm.

Diamond discs can also be divided into diamond discs segmented i continuous and versions turbo. Continuous discs are discs mainly for cutting ceramic hard materials, they are characterised by high cutting quality and a smooth surface after cutting. Segmented diamond discs are generally discs for cutting concrete, building materials, asphalt discs, granite.

ASTAR Diamond Tools offers a wide range of diamond blades for cutting any material. Our diamond blades are characterised by very good price and high quality.
